The stimulation of microbial activity by microplastic contributes to membrane fouling in ultrafiltration

چکیده
Research has demonstrated that dissolved organic carbon leaching from plastics can stimulate microbial activity in the ocean. However, similar situation not been reported freshwater, like rivers and lakes. The interaction between microplastic microorganism may probably change water quality, causing operational issues during membrane treatment, such as increased biofouling, pore blockage or formation of filter cake. In this study, influence microplastics (polyethylene, PE) on biofouling community continuous-flow ultrafiltration was investigated. Results demonstrate PE natural surface increase production extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). images scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS) mapping have confirmed presence biofilm covered particles. Biofouling layer became more hydrophobic with a dense compact due to accumulation EPS stimulated by microplastics. Specific components EPS, especially tryptophan-like soluble byproducts molecular weight distribution 4 kDa 30 kDa, were addition likely be entrapped pores aggravating fouling. main factor caused diversity also affected microplastic. conclusion, mechanism is clear.

Fouling and Rejection Characteristic of Humic Substances in Polysulfone Ultrafiltration Membrane
In this study, the ultrafiltration membrane for humic substance removal was prepared by blending polysulfone with a high concentration of PEG400 as additives. The influences of the additive to the fouling resistance capability and humic substances rejection of the polysulfone membrane were investigated. The addition of 35%wt of PEG400 concentration improved the pure water flux up to 200, but re...

comparison of catalytic activity of heteropoly compounds in the synthesis of bis(indolyl)alkanes.
heteropoly acids (hpa) and their salts have advantages as catalysts which make them both economically and environmentally attractive, strong br?nsted acidity, exhibiting fast reversible multi-electron redox transformations under rather mild conditions, very high solubility in polar solvents, fairly high thermal stability in the solid states, and efficient oxidizing ability, so that they are imp...
15 صفحه اولfrom linguistics to literature: a linguistic approach to the study of linguistic deviations in the turkish divan of shahriar
chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...
15 صفحه اولMembrane fouling in ultrafiltration of natural water after pretreatment to different extents.
The combined fouling during ultrafiltration (UF) of surface water pretreated to different extents was investigated to disclose the roles of polysaccharides, proteins, and inorganic particles in UF membrane fouling. Both reversible and irreversible fouling decreased with enhanced pretreatment (biologically active carbon (BAC) treatment and sand filtration). The sand filter effluent fouled the me...
